Of course not. But a parent could be in denial about discipline just as their child's mental state. Basically there's no one size fits all solution here.

I agree that it aint always the be all end all, but i wont tell people or aspiring parents what they should and shouldn't do either. I'd just ask that every parent understand their child first and foremost, and deal with them as an individual. Understand their personality and what does and doesn't work for them. Think about what'll get through to them before you run to POP them in the mouth or throat before they can barely formulate a sentence  i dont like that at ALL

If and when i have children, i pray that im able to raise intelligent kids that have a mind of their own, but still know better than to cross certain lines like this girl here. I'd make it so that my kids respect me, but not FEAR me. I dont like the sound of that or even the thought.

Im not saying i'd never put my hands on my children, btw. Im simply saying it wont be go to move as if i can't do anything else. I think it says a lot about a parent/person that has to strike another human being before exhausting one or two other options at least    n

it isn't the only way, but it can be a good way. my parents used a mix of things and especially depending on the level of what we did. i turned out just fine and didn't learn to hit people for whatever reason. just spanking with no explanations or warnings and and such is stupid.  all of my siblings turned out fine. it taught us discipline in the right context. every child doesn't respond the same way either. i've seen spankings, just talking, restriction, grounding and time outs ALL fail with certain kids.

I think you guys are coming from emotional place and trying to justify how your parents lashed you as a child. To say, what else can discipline a child is just You're a human being with a functioning brain. The brain is malleable and can easily adapt and adjust to situations. Pain doesn't fix anyone.
