Tbh it's just regular internal rivalry. Dutch and Germans tease eachother all the time. Just like Igbo and Yoruba and Ghanaians and Nigerians but when it's in comparison to someone completely different we stick together. If Nigeria doesn't win I'm happy for my Ghanaian sistren. But if Nigeria slays then oh well

:blessed:
!!!!!!!!!!!
My boyfriend is Nigerian and as much as I like to go in on them being a Ghananian  I'd be the first to defend ha if anything else tried it

And bent is absolutely right .. It's not about being "better than" by claiming who you are. Because PRs are no better than AAs . I'm proud to be black. I am proud to be AA . But I am also proud of my heritage in the islands.

I think when people accuse others of trying to be better it shoes how much they think of AAs.
!!!!!!

It sucks to admit but... there's no pride in AA when there should be. It's for lack of a better word ... bad

I've never seen anything like it. We grow up thinking we're inferior, we have less opportunities than everyone

And our celebrities exchange their natural locks for blonde mess and bleaching cremes
Black men marry lighter skinned or white women

Yet Kim/Khloe/Kylie reach fame for stealing what lots of AA women have naturally
White singers get famous for stealing our swag :dead:

It's one big oxymoron :dead:

I was looking at pics of Teyana Taylor last night and something made me wonder if she was something other than AA . Something exotically weird about her.

And sure enough I found she is of AA + Trini descent . I dunno it's just something about West Indians that give it away. Even the ones are aren't even fully from the islands.

My coworker at the new job asked about my background and told me she knew I was from an island but couldn't figure out which one. Which is insane because technically only 12% of me is from an island :plzstop:

Nnn like the gorls who said you look "Haitian"? Nn

yeah, To have pride in being AA means you first have to have pride in something you most likely have no knowledge of, your African roots. That alone is hard to achieve. Then, you'd have to have pride in the "American" part, which has and continues to mistreat us in ways, and has left an overall bad taste in our mouths. I can see why being AA isn't enough.

No shade, honestly..but some of you used to give this better than vibe too, in regard to AA. Some still do.

If it's any concellation, I think i'm better than you...

wishful thinking sug'

Young

I really think Blacks are the main ones trying to differentiate from one another.

Most people see a black person and see BLACK.
Even if you're half white or half something.

We come in all different shapes and sizes; depending on where we live we may talk different and have slightly different cultures but we're all kin

Here in NYC there are many Dominicans with dark skin and curly hair. Like Sammy Sosa before he turned white. And they have really Afro like facial features... Their noses etc. so I see how people here will assume.

But if ur ignorant to what these people can look like in a place that doesn't have as much variety as NYC you'd probably assume that a dark skin person is rocking a jeri curl or perm.

That's the problem with people down south. They are not used to variety. I literally had this female AA barber tell me that it was interesting cuz usually she only sees light skin people with my type of hair texture. Examining my fucking roots to make sure it was mine.
the Carolinas are in their own little world

Other southern states aren't like that
