For me personally
Knowing where my family hail from, my ancestors struggles, the horrible things they had to go through makes me appreciate my culture and background
Knowing that my ancestors were once rulers and politicians in their land trumps any 'love ya skin' campaign that goes on today
Knowing your roots and foundation is never a bad thing

As Americans we are taught to see it as a "country" with giraffes, antelope and babies with swollen bellies.

The next time i plan an overseas trip it will not be to Europe.
It will be to Ethiopia . Or Ghana.
Glad I know my truth. And can now connect myself with the motherland.
Really means a lot to me, as an African American.

Calling everyone "just black" sounds like white mans doctrine to me.

I personally don't see where the influx of all the ancestry/ethnicity threads have come from. I'm black, knowing where my ancestors come from won't change that lol.

Yea... I think for a lot of people its just the idea of finding something "edgy" in their bloodline. I never cared before, but now I want to fucking know. Its just the fact of not knowing ANY family history and having that right taken away from me.

I didn't care before. Or I would have done it a while back.
But I do now, spent A couple weeks researching, got my answers
And now i am on with my life as usual.
