My grandmother wasn't having it. Maybe that's why I view these things this way.
She is a woman who believes that her husband is well....hers.
So I can't agree all women "back in the day" developed or encouraged this type of thinking.

If anything I'd agree that the old school mentality is that the man goes out and takes care of his FAMILY financially, while the woman tends to the kids and house.
Now that is something that I know was very popular and is also a way that my grandparents operated.

Definitely not all women, but a lot of them did.

And the man taking care of the family financially is why a lot of women turned their heads.

I mean, back in the day where would a single woman with 3 kids and no
work experience go if she decided to leave her husband?

Many of those women had no choice but to stay and just deal.
I can see the connection in regard to the lack of independence that women had back in the day, as opposed to now.

But I just never knew it was normal for women to accept cheating. Is there anything that could support this?

This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

Herb.

I was actually raised by old school people and they didn't have this mentality you guys are speaking of.
And still don't have it to this day.
So you have to excuse me if I'm a little dumbfounded.

MAY

Cheating was as common then as it is now. The difference is nowadays it's almost glorified.
Back then it was very hush hush. Everyone knew but they just never spoke on it.

Since I've become an adult I have learned so much scandalous shit about older family members & friends of the family.

Black families are notorious for keeping skeletons in the closet :plzstop:

Herb.

I know that men have always cheated. My question is in regard to women openly accepting their knowledge of it...
When was this a common practice?

They definitely are. Black families will hold on to a fckn secret. My grandfather had a side family mess. He had a son elsewhere and my grandmother definitely knew

Herb.

And it being hush hush back then as opposed to being glorified now is my point, kinda.
Women now are more open minded to these things to try to keep their family together, IMO. and will even admit being so. Back in the day, she would be given a side eye.
Back in the day it was a disgrace for a man to leave his family.
Now, you can get a divorce at a drive thru window. :dead: (IF you're even lucky enough to have a husband to begin with) And men leaving their kids is almost widely expected. It's only when a woman leaves that it's a disgrace, a shame, "how could she" etc.

Knowing all of this, I could see why a woman in this day and age would "overlook" a couple of things.
That's why I say that this is new and edgy.

Herb.

"Shacking up" is also something that is new, edgy and widely accepted.
Before, it was a disgrace for a woman to lay down without a ring on her finger. Or bare kids without one. She was a whore. The children were bastards.
Marriage is clearly no longer on the lists of many men, and women are making it easier for them to have it like that. As my grandmother would say, "Why buy the cow when you gettin' the milk for free? :usureuok: "

I believe it's all a cycle. People put so much into their relationships, and sometimes even use it as some form of self validation these days.
"Out with bae!" "In a relationship! That means I'm cute and desirable", etc. etc.

When people start putting more value into themselves or acknowledging the preexisting value within they'll begin to accept less and less of what someone throws at them.

Same with my grandmother. Once she got to the states she didn't want my grandfather no more  :plzstop:
Right.

If anything, the whole "men gon cheat! Let him do it! " mess is something new and edgy. It's more of a woman's way of going against social norms which promoted marriage and monogamy, and a white picket fence.
I believe more and more women, especially black women, may be doing this out of at least a small amount of desperation to keep something in tact. Since it's such a rarity that black men are willing to commit and better yet, hold down a household with kids.

If they have that, chances are they may be willing to put up with more to keep it.
women didn't dare speak up for themselves the way the way they do now overall, though. Many got cheated on and made sure they shut the hell up and had that dinner hot and ready. Divorce was uncommon as a result.

I think it has always been that way bby. Of course not not all women, but for a lot of them yes.

Some women stayed because they had no choice. Others stayed because of love, religion, or other reasons.

I have heard some things about my own family since I've become an adult. People you thought were the ideal happy couples were a fuckin mess behind closed doors, and it all came out when the husband passed away. Kids coming out of the woodwork & shit. It's sad, but that's all because he couldn't keep his dick in his pants.
