And Justin not being in an R&B categories doesn't take away the fact that he appropriates R&B music and the Recording Academy just so happens to place him in the Pop/Mainstream categories because he is a Popular act. :dead:

Do you know his life?
he grew up on R&B music and can sing it, record it and perform is as he pleases
and there?s nothing you can say to stop it from happening

but cry about it.

He's still an appropriator. I wanna see him give credit where it tf DUE, nigga!

Yawl sound so damn bitter in here :dead:

KING BENTLEY.

Let me clarify what some ppl are missing due to uproar and anger :dead:

We already know the logistics of what Stephanie said :dead:

But here?s what angry blacks don?t realize
We don?t OWN the music industry
Just like we don?t OWN the NBA or NFL
But we TAKE what is dished out until it hits too close to home.

Just like those NFL players still played for massa after he called them inmates :dead:

Yawl in here pissed and up and arms, but I bet that Apple ID bill is paid on time EVERY month :dead:

she mentioned Adele, and for yawl to sit here and come down on ppl like JT and Adele, who broke her damn Grammy in half for a black woman.

Yet when has a BET or Soul Train award ever meant that much to the Black community?

Are Baph and I saying issues don?t exist? NO!

But Maybe our shit doesn?t mean as much because WE don?t value it as much.

RnB isn?t selling in the black community anymore period. And yawl ain?t buying no Kenny Latimore either.

And even IF we were taking what she said and running with it. Who fckn cares

I?m not saying appropriation doesn?t happen
I?m saying what are the solutions besides crying about it.

But who takes the blame? Is it the record labels and marketing execs or the consumers that are not supporting black artists.

It's actually some of both...think about it...compare the number of white pop stars to major black stars who coexist...they have Ariana, Megan Trainor, Taylor, Katy, Gaga etc...

We have beyonce, Rihanna, and to a lesser extent Nicki Minaj. SZA and Cardi B are rising starlets but will they be able to compete with the pop girls?

KING BENTLEY.

I wouldn?t expect you to read past a couple sentences anyway :dead:

Her statement is so true but it?s also an issue we have with ourselves. Brandy and Monica are a prime example ...  we as fans get so caught up in she?s better because of this or she?s better because of that, instead of supporting because they are different and both very good af at what they do. We have to take some ownership in our favs demise. Bottom line is, we should support because we are hurting our artist and making it hard for them to win!

Gone with this!

UGH!

Why do we make everything negative a black issue?  Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are white and are publicly feuding as well.  Including their white fans.  That's just music period.  It's competitive.  It's not a race thing.

Same thing Bentley is in here doing.  "Why is Tank singing about sex?"

Like white artists singing R&B music are covering all of these amazing concepts.

I hate when ya'll do this.

Did you watch the video?

YEAH.  I did.

And my point still stands.  We're always pointing the finger at each other like we are somehow responsible for an industry literally stacked against black music.

Do some research on the label merges that happened at the turn of the last decade and how most Urban divisions were cut with Urban staffs completely fired.  Leaving R&B artists on labels with employees who probably had never even heard of them.

Mixed with iHeart and Clear Channel doing business deals that forced many Urban stations into Rhythmic stations or to close altogether.  In addition to rules set behind the scenes at Billboard giving advantage to Pop radio and changing the R&B Chart to no longer reflect airplay .... thus eliminating R&B out of the charts which directly impacts award shows which directly impacts visibility which directly impacts sales.

Black people have been supporting and "doing our part" for years.  That's why Demi Lovato can sell only 20k more than Tamar but still EAT.  Because she has an industry literally backing her 100%.

So, YEAH.

You're wrong about that.

I support black artists FIRST! I have every right to be angry because I spend my $10.84 every other week on a new release from mostly black artists, but looking at the paradigm holistically is problematic and I won?t pacify the Adele?s of the world for breaking off a Grammy for a Beyonc? because it?s really goddamn larger than that.

Whites are still the majority population, so that means their purchasing power extends further to support several leading pop acts simultaneously. That's why you can have several of them churning out hits, pushing units and labels respond accordingly to that with their financial backing. Black people unfortunately don't have in spades that same luxury.
