Are we going to have an honest conversation and say that Raven was poking fun at ethnic names in general and deeming them inappropriate for the workplace?

Or are we going to act as if that was for Watermelondrea specifically.

Here's one "Black woman with a mouth" that I can get with .
Let HER speak. Raven can shut up forever after that deleted IG post and I won't complain.

That's been my argument from the jump that she was talking about Watermelondrea specfically cgcfccccccvvvvvvv;

Because, again, that name was a parody to begin with

Because I certainly have two coworkers that "shortened" their names . One is a Black woman who admitted to me that she shortened her tea for the office.

And another one of them have an ethnic Hispanic name. He changes it to "Paul" when dealing with clients in an effort to be taken more seriously and not immediately stereotyped before even getting an opportunity to make an impression on them with his work ethic and natural abilities.

What Raven touched on is a very real thing that affects people. There are people out there who literally will lose opportunities because of their name. And even those who get their opportunity clearly still feel a need to mask their truth for the sake of  "professionalism".

Let's not beat around the bush and act as if she was solely referring to this Watermelondrea character.

Exactly.

I don't know why bvy sis is even questioning that.

It was clearly a jab at "ghetto", ethnic names in general.

If that Black woman saw "Shaquanna" on a job application she wouldn't hire her.
If I?m allow d to chime in, I don?t think she meant ethnic names..

i know ppl who do it .. i would too... you also hear ppl say  " oh i want my baby to be able to get a job when they grow up" referring to not giving them a ethnic sounding name so there resume doesnt get thrown away before they can even get an interview. how do you feel about that?  ppl giving their babies white sounding  names for that reason?

All she said was, "I'm not gonna hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. I'm not gonna hire you!"
