Speak on it, Tonk. Share.

I know within my culture, it runs rampant.
I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed my own sisters being treated differently (from outsiders or distant family) simply due to their skin tone or hair length. No one says it outright, but it's obvious as fuck.
I'll just say all of that is true and facts but most can break out of it ONLY if they are conditional mentally for it. It's hard to explain but we are powerful creatures, there has been plenty of blacks throughout history that has transcended their color but unfortunately this effects most mentally that leaves a mark on them forever that they never overcome, which in turns keeps them bound by it. If that makes sense.

If being lightskin n semi talented is all it takes why didnt it work for claudette ortiz? Keke wyatt (pre being a mom of 14), christina milian etc?

The moment kelly is yall example of someone that should be x, y and z the whole thing becomes a joke and cackle to me.

You seem upset so I'll give you some time to cool off

Let me know when you're ready to have a real discussion about this that doesn't revolve around defending Beyoncé

I aint gonna defend shit. After all yall fuming she's still going to be that bitch and these lil divide and conquer games have no bearings. She aint depending on just you fickle blacks. If she was she wouldve been dead in the water like nickel.
Global self.

Why tall not discussing why rapsody not getting the chances nickel got.

Now there's someone that fits the narrative and is actually talent.

Yall mess was DOA at the shear mention of a basic bitch like kelly

and if anyone's tryna say Kelly would be on Beyonce's level if she were just a bit lighter

i couldn't agree with that.

beyonce to me is just more talented than Kelly. the way she handles songs, her ability to effectively create a persona as an artist, her overall vibe, her presence as a vocalist. her confidence. she's just that bitch. sfsfsffs

i love kelly downe but she's always been kinda all over the place. her first album was a mix of rock, pop, R&B, jazz, techno snsffsnnsfsnnfs

she started out with what seemed to be confusion with her artistic identity.  'fas came in the game as a solo artist knowing exactly what she wanted to portray and has stuck to it - even down to the same matted blond voluminous wigs.  :omf:

This is very disappointing to hear from Eve..
I guess my plight is the blacks that feel like our "allies"..
that we've come so far so let things go..
I face this stance on a lot of black topics and typically it's around blacks who have "made it".. are "wealthy".. or rich or have been the exception.

the sad truth is this is still and issue and it will always be an issue..
it is so much larger than Beyonce... fact is beyonce is extraordinarily talented .. and had a family that was gonna make sure she was who she is today regardless..

but there are so many examples in different fields where color shade has been the deal breaker for them..
yes we have had some examples of darker women excelling but if you compare it to the light skin women who have catapulted the industry's it literally sums up as small as a crumb..
one or two girls per era.. working 5x harder than their lighter toned/European contemporaries..

this colorism conversation def irks me/drains me but it is no time better than the current time to discuss and face harsh truths.. there are thousands of brown and dark girls who haven't been afforded the same career and opportunities because of their appearance.. we can't make it go away by assuming that because we are suddenly seeing more representation that it has been healed.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE.. and NO BLACK WOMAN SHOULD BE SITTING AROUND ON A LARGE PLATFORM DISMISSING THIS ISSUE.. especially one who could've benefited from the tone of her skin.
