Although I believe in bringing in fresh talent, etc...

I agree with Afro's first opinion about this being similar to an artist creating their own work.

which is fine if the mess is GOOD

Great or terrible... TP is creating his own work as a black individual... and that's just really the point - not really debating his talent. Art is subjective. But the man is still in business. Hopefully this will inspire other black individuals to do the same - and it'll be a bonus if we actually love the work.

but see that's NOT the point in here. that may be the only or main point for you and i can respect that, but that wasn't the point of this conversation. the point of this conversation was to compare his "revelation" of not having a writing room to the actual quality of his work. art is indeed subjective. this is also a fantastic excuse to stand behind when your work is in actuality lacking. this is where we have to you our intellectual intelligence. the quality if his work is simply not up to par with that of his peers. and the differences have little/nothing to do with artistic choice.
Yeah. I'm completely here for anyone that doesn't claim to know everything and truly looks to evolve and get better. Idk ...  to me, that's true humility as well.

Defeats the purpose of his "preparing of the table" IMO

Preparing a seat at your own table ...  strictly for yourself. I just hope he knows the optics of it aren't very good at ALL  :dead:  regardless of what his intent may be.
Not a seat at the table for u and only u :plzstop:
Idgaf about the black writers tbh. Just hire ANYONE if it means transforming that unwatchable ass shit u putting out
ssddsdsdsds I'll DEFINITELY take any other talented creative team at this point. I stress 'black writer' because no one knows our humor the way we do, nor do they understand our trials and many other little intricacies of the hood or black people trying to navigate the corporate world and all of the politics that come along with that.

I stress 'Black writer' because we tend to be the most creative and talented people on the PLANET, not just because "omg please Mr. Tyler Perry, give us kind black folks a jawb"  :dead:

Making it about that is a cop out IMO

im not talking about hiring black writers just because of optics or a "we all we got" mess

There are many reasons people are bringing up Black writers being hired

"paychecks" are definitely one of the reasons - as you can see in tweets I shared. But thanks for expounding on yours luv

Ultimately, Tyler will continue to do him and be successful at it. If the gorls wanna sit there and fume what can ya do. His critics aren't paying his bills, but his fans have set him up quite lovely.

If you ain't broke, don't fix it.

Now what else is up
i get ur point for sure, Afro. I do wish he cared about some of the critics and applied some of the things folks have suggested, but i get why he's not budging ..  to an extent

I think super harsh criticism and flat out dragging him as if he hasn't contributed anything, kind of fucks it up for everyone that actually admires him and wants the best from him

All in all, i use Tyler. IMO he's just super stubborn in his art

He really touched me here:

I think if he tells HIS story and touches on his own childhood, it would be a gripping fucking story. Give me THAT, outside of just the other angle he's been using with his Grandmother being a huge and obvious inspiration for him

The thing is, I don't mind the cliches and stereotypes Tyler uses. I get him wanting to use those as a device to push a deeper message and relate to this audience. And whether we wanna admit it or not, those storylines are an everyday reality for a lot of black folks.

The problem is he doesn't know how to pace his storylines or flesh out characters beyond being archetypes. A writing staff could help him do this, and he'll get to stay true to whatever moral lessons he wants to push on his fans.
this is perfection   :stressed:
