Looking back at Human today I think it's some of her best vocals. But I think when she started smoking weed it changed her voice (but that happens when you smoke). She has vocals today but they sound more raw as opposed to sounding pure.

Yeah I noticed when she started smoking her breath control dropped immediately
she runs out of breath alot easier these days
Also why almost none of her songs are full lines of lyrics
its all mini vocal comps (which sets her up for failure live most times)
and now we have more raw sounding vocals
smoking definitely contributes to that
but if shes not doing it alot its not going to affect the voice to much
unless she was lightin up everyday for those 8 years
shes just been lazy

she clearly cannot pull off the that innocent tone you hear on

She feels BABY TALK will achieve it
that speaks to a more grittier vocal iteself

good thing is we dont really need that to enjoy her voice (that tonality being the thing is in her head)

Punching in vocals is not indicative of bad breath control. She's always done that and especially on Full Moon. Did she need to quit smoking then? And those songs you mentioned where her tone was "innocent" were more than likely vocally altered in production. I mean Rodney obviously pitched her mess up on Human

its not a rodney thing you take the recording of afrodidsiac and compare that to the tone of her live vocals during that era the tone came rather easy
Vocal comps have always been apart of the process
but now she does micro punch ins for NON bG vocals

and the songs she decides to do that on she struggles with live ( i belive its a diminished breath control issue)

but you can look to her live performances to guage the changes in breath control over the years
it comes and goes through depending  weight gain is also a factor too

and bottom line is the voice ages and hers is in great condition
but to sit up here and say she can casually recreate whatever tonality she wants especially with her voice now is absurd

especially given the fact that there are tons of mismatched tones on b7 when she re did parts

i mean its not a real big deal but im a abit tired of ppul saying she controls her tone 100 percent all the time and everything is intentional cause every album her voice has been in a different space and this one is no different but significant time has passed since last  release so

she may not give Brandy era tone (cause she was a child!) but can definitely give FM/AFRO/HUMAN/211 vocals if she wants to !!

unless u have hormonal problem i don't know anybody in the 40s sounding like they sounded in their teenage time, singing' or speaking... smoker or non smoker

Brandy been smoking since forever, stop trying to create something out of nothing. What's wrong with Brandy's voice being more gritty? Why is someone like Jazmine Sullivan praised for her gritty tone but y'all bash Bran over it, always wanting her to sound low, sweet and pretty...ummm NO she has multiple facets to her voice.

Bran is very intentional with her tone and that's clear with the way she produced her vocals on B7. When we say she's intentional, we don't mean that her voice hasn't changed and that there aren't areas that are out of control but y'all know Bran will redo a song 50 times if she feels it isn't right so there has to be a significant amount of intention behind it.

The "baby voice" you speak of is not her tryna sound like NSN Brandy its just her using another part of her voice. I hated the Human era tone at first, but lets not act like Human sounds like young Brandy..all different tones and all different areas. She was even giving more soulful and gritty back in 2013 on that Robert Glasper song...I'm sure if she wanted to sing a song like "Honey" today she could do it.

She's obviously naturally talented but she's even more of an amazing singer because of the way she adapts to however her voices changes. That's something that cannot be said for someone like a Whitney etc.

why would Bran ever voluntarily try to mimic her own voice on previous recordings?
her voice is her voice and sometimes it sound reminiscent of earlier records but of course it could never sound exactly the same
also, her breath control is top notch to be able to pull off some of the fast staccato singing on like No Tomorrow

There is no definetly about it she can barely give a 211

This is a B7 era vocal were dealing with and you heard that on freedom rings so
she hasn't successfully executed a full moon or afro or human vocal on this album  and thats not a negative
but she clearly tries to go for those but it doesn't sounds smooth on b7 and with daily fluctuations in her voice (normal) trying to redo songs in different sessions shows
indications she should stop trying to force that type of vocal and embrace this new voice
(oddly enough her b7 voice does well for debut brandy )

look at beyonce she not tryin to give no survivor tone she adjusts the music to her new vocal styling

I dont think shes mimicing it cause she honestly cant do that
but  i belive she still wants that tone transparency she once had where she can weave in and out of previous vocal eras
but the b7 voice is saying no mam own your new voice

because now shes giving a lazy vocal to try to capture it
pushing her voice beyond what it used to be easy to do
and sacrificing clarity and diction for these style of vocals

but everything is different now

after almost 10 years that voice isnt doing everything it used to do

which is okay

need her to stop trying to take it there there tho
other areas are suffering behind it
