Aaliyah is a good studio singer. Her live vocals have never impressed me tho. She darkens her tone more and her delivery is never as polished. But I do commend her for always singing live.

I'm not gonna say her vocals never impressed me but she was a good singer. She woulda got better as she developed tho. She died at 22. If Brandy died at 22, she wouldn't have been a SINGER at that point imo either.  Her live performances used to be quite bad

Or it coulda regressed like Monica, Mariah, Alicia and plenty other female vocalists. Dont get me wrong, u'll never hear me say Aaliyah cant sing cause her voice was beautiful. Her studio vocals were just always better. And Brandy at 21 n before has delivered solid vocals live. Lets not.

And Aaliyah has as well.  I can post some pretty decent Aaliyah performances. Brandy had the chance to relearn her voice and work it into what it is.  Brandy would've had alot more bad performances too if she didn't choose to lip sync for over a decade.  Like,  let's not do it

Key word here is decent and I agree. Im not impressed by decent performances. And we cant blame ppl for judging her for what she gave when she was alive. She was decent live and very good in the studio.

nothing amazing but good. Beautiful tone, especially her head voice. wide range from low to high
and decent amount of power when she belted. I dont think she "held back" she just paced herself
its not good to compare with Bran because she was always exceptional vocally. Even during NSN when her voice got thin and hoarse a lot
she was still a smart enough musician and vocalist to sing around those issues and sound pleasant

That's what I was thinking. Brandy wasn't an appropriate comparison. Aaliyah always seemed to have great control of her voice though.
