Just rewatched Brandy's performance for the 10th time. She sounds sooo good

I remember going to see her live in London during the Human era and the girl lipped the whole set.

I saw Brandy live several times, but my favorite performance of hers was at a local Black Arts festival. She didn't lip at ALL and she kiiiiiilllllllleeeeeedddddd. Even when I saw her at some smaller venues she sang live... either that or, she had a stellar prerecord. She did lip most of her set at this Jazz festival I attended though. The crowd didn't notice.

She performed at a jazz show here in Detroit a year or two ago, and did her whole set live. This was not long after she had a couple off public moments... I was surprised,  and she killed! And showed me that she can do all those songs and the big notes live if she wanted to. Her vocals weren't perfect but her voice is so dynamic and angelic! I think that gets lost with the pre-records.

Idk what happened with post-production of this soul train performance but what they did to her vocals took away the dynamics of her voice...

This performance FOR ME was disappointing. Not because it's a shit performance but because my expectations of here were high and I know what she's capable of. We've seen her murder stages.

It's a very awkward place for her to be in, as an artist though. Because those same people stan her. Then there's the vocal bible crap. djdj. The pressure.

To me, it's no different than being an actor or a writer.

Some actors do amazing work - with a script, character development, extra takes.
If you asked that same amazing actor to do improv or broadway, they may not perform as well.

Some writers do amazing work - but need time, to gather themselves and come forth.
If you asked that same amazing writer to freestyle - they may not be unable to do as well.

It doesn't mean they aren't great because they can't perform LIVE in the moment, all the time.
The process is different for everyone.
