Lol.
They were on par with Changing Faces.
Irish is so haggard. :uhh:
sis def had a hard decade.
Vocally, they were better than CF but CF kept a bop or two armed and ready.

I can name 3 MAJOR singles from 702. (Steelo, Get It, Girls At)
For Changing Faces, I can name 2 MAJOR. (Stroke U Up, GhettOut)
All the groups served their purpose tho.
Shouldn't get too wrapped up on who is 'better'.
702 were dope to me back then. They definitely made a bit of noise and saw some mild success. I was always rooting for them.
And I?ve never heard Changing Faces. :dead:
Where My Girls At was a huge crossover hit and one of the biggest songs of 1999. That alone puts them above those other groups, in my opinion.

There were only facts posted. DC had two flop singles between No No No and Bills. I love Get on the Bus and With Me, but they flopped. Their debut album was not certified until 2 years after its release. They were not huge artists at the time. They were performing on the same Lady of Soul stages as 702 and other R&B acts at the time.
I was a fan of both groups in the nineties. They were peers, briefly, until DC obviously took off and surpassed them in 2000. In the summer when both Girls and Bills were out, they were both certified smashes from two young girl groups. Bills reached #1 and was huge, but white people loved Girls and played it out for a LONG time.
On the 1999 year-end charts, Bills was #21 while Girls was #11. So, yes, Bills peaked a few spots higher, but Girls had longevity and got more play over the course of the year.
By the time Say My Name came out, 702 became an afterthought.

Monkenstef even... "He's Mine" alone books me.

Blaque came out at the very end of 99 :kii:
They ain?t 90s anything.
Even DC is a bit of a stretch. They came out in 1998. They really blew up in 2000 when the original group broke up. I think of DC as more of a 2000s phenomenon. They took the torch from TLC after Fanmail.
The other groups didn?t peak in the 2000s.
Get your facts together.
They came out in 1997.
Dc blew up from their first single.
And TWOTW was 2 x plat before the end of 99
Can you list the RnB girl groups with multiplat albums?
Doubt it?s more than 3.
No No No came out in Nov 1997... which is basically 1998. Their album came out in 1998.
Care to explain how their debut didn?t get certified until 2000?
HEAVEN02 has a few ppl fuming I see
DC didn't become HUGE until 1999 to be honest.
Their debut and that smash single pales in comparison to their soph.
YALL are KILLINg me with this. OH well when DC FIRST CAME OUT !!!

These alternative facts y?all keep :kii:
Flop02 has never even had a number 1 on the RnB charts :kii:
There were only facts posted. DC had two flip singles between No No No and Bills.
Dead at you trying to convince yourself they weren?t huge but they were charting WW and selling out shows. Picking up awards.
All these song you mentioned, were hits overseas particularly huge in the UK and the Netherlands.

The argument started because I said WHEN WHERE MY GIRLS AT AND BILLS WERE BOTH OUT, THEY WERE PEERS. Summer 1999. At no point did I suggest DC didn?t surpass them. Of course they did. :ummwhat:
DC was not TLC level just because they put out 2 hits. Where were they on MTV VMAs, at the Grammys, Billboard Awards, or anything prior to 2000, if they were such huge international stars?
They weren?t nominated or certified for anything noteworthy (except Lady of Soul Awards... like 702) until 2000, when Say My Name took off.
Y?all don?t even remember the summer of 99. :plzstop:
In Oct 1999, Vibe even gave them a
shared article (ya know, like they were kinda equal or on the same level) talking about relationships and stuff, which made sense because it was two teen girl groups who just had smash hits the previous summer. Which was my whole point. :usureuok:

I can admit I was wrong that they got a Billboard nod in 98. Yet you like to pretend The Netherlands is relevant to the discussion when it was asked when 702 had a top 12 year-end single on the Hot 100, answered that Girls was #11 on the year-end chart, and that the song actually landed higher there than Bills. That was DC?s big song of 1999, and Girls was like ten spots higher on the year-end chart. That is a fact. 702 was not ever popular again after that song, but I was only ever talking about when those two first singles were out.

I wonder if Brandy will be mentioned briefly since mama Sonya was their manager for a bit. I'll give it a watch.

Out of all the 90s girlgroups they were at the bottom of the list. Even below brownstone.
Can?t think of the 90s without thinking of 702. Really? :kii:

Destiny's Child was definitely riding the one hit wonder wave until The Writing's On The Wall. Their debut era failed to produce any more hits. Their album didn't even reached the upperhalf after a monster hit like No, No No and barely scanned platinum.
... With Me Flopped and the album only had 2 singles
Get on the Bus wasn?t even a US single, nor was it from any of their projects so no, not really.
Destiny?s Child (album) also went Multiplatinum in Canada and Gold in the UK...something 70POO never achieved anywhere. So yea

I kinda said what I said. Their debut album didn't go multiplatinum in Canada until June 2000 and gold in the UK until 2013. The album had a short span/run in the UK.

When have they ever had a song be #12 on the year end chart?
702 ain?t even on par with Nina Sky.
Where My Girls At was every bit as big a crossover hit as Bills Bills Bills. I remember seeing a chart where Billboard added all the girl group song stats together. Where My Girls At was actually just a little higher , because it had stayed on the charts for so long and had a longer peak.
They didn?t have a crossover follow up hit. And that?s where it started to be a difference.

LOL What is it with Beyonc? fans? This is why I can?t deal with y?all. 702 is having an Unsung episode, unsung meaning they were great but missed the chance to be really big. DC was arguably the biggest girl group of all time. Yet, you are going to war over stats to prove DC?s status. Why? It?s like y?all are insecure or something over Beyonc??s place in music and always feel the need to prove something for her. How did we even get on this?

The 90's comment was a bit of stretch but they definitely wasn't at the bottom of the barrel.
I really don?t understand the entertainment in putting down all the girl groups. Like with June?s Diary, I guess it?s because some fan said they?d stopped listening to Beyonc? and would use Kristal as a replacement. And Kristal took that as a compliment, so some fans have been at war with her since. Pretty silly.
What did 702 do? Claimed that they had their own unique sound?

I mean this Vogue article does credited as an influence on Y2K R&B
Quote
these women elbowed out the crunchy catchiness of Britney Spears and aggression of Kid Rock with interesting, seductive music.
It wasn?t neo-soul so much as neo-R&B?an innovative take on a beloved genre that promised a way forward.
They collaged the dominant sounds of R&B production at the time (from innovators like Timb, Missy, Jermaine Dupri, and"Boy is Mine" producers Dallas Austin and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins) and made something peppy and poppy and radio-friendly that kept pace with the Britneys and the N ?Syncs without sacrificing experimentation.
