I was on track to go into the Army and even worked alongside the military some time ago at my old job.
At the end of the day I wouldn't recommend it for minorities. Some of the shit that goes down just aint worth it...and benefits! ch, the grass aint always greener on the other side.

Lol I just think the idea of what the military does as a whole, on a daily basis is skewed. How we fight wars in 2019 is vastly different from what it was in the past. Though we are well trained and can pop shit if need be, we aren't sending 60k troops on the ground right now. We have fighter jets, stealth bombers, drones, ships and subs, proxy fighters, special forces, and the like now. What I do and what most of our base does is just in support of that.

I have no idea. I think it's just like any homeless person. They just have a label so it sticks out more. And usually the homeless vets are the older ones who actually did experience some mental or physical trauma and are disabled. Even able military people sometimes have difficulty transitioning back into the normal, civilian way of life but there are resources and benefits that help with that. Maybe some people just don't take advantage of the those things and just kinda flop. Add PTSD or an amputated leg from decades ago and you have the homeless vets with the hats you despise

The military is becoming more and more diverse though. For example, the section I am in now is 4 blacks, 3 Asian, 2 Spanish, and 2 whites. I'm on a spectrum, my supervisor is a female on a spectrum, and everyone is open and accepting of it. Every month the base celebrates different cultures, i.e. African American heritage, Asian pacific heritage, the LGBT community during pride month, and so on.

and I'll be getting my Bachelors in Architecture. The army is just nothing I need or see benefit in.

If there's an emergency, absolutely.
But I understand your feelings honestly. It's not for everyone. There are some freedoms you have to give up and some opportunities you may have to pass up of you are looking to involve yourself in other things.
Nothing like slavery at all though, more like contracted work which is common with civilian career fields. Especially higher tier positions those are often under contract for years with certain terms and conditions. But yes the military is different.

This is true. The Air Force has the highest testing standards to get accepted, they don't accept anybody. Then it's the Navy, then Marines, then Army takes pretty much anyone( they need bodies, Field, Intel, mechanics, etc...)

And tbh it's a great avenue to take, so advertising it to the disenfranchised who otherwise may not have an opportunity to have a fruitful life isn't a bad thing. That's where a lot of my issue lies.
Their marketing rubs me the wrong way because I don't feel there's enough emphasis on how big of a commitment it is. And it's very predatory - especially for young Black males who are much closer to 18 than they are 25.
