What am I to say when it's so blatantly obvious? Hey, I support singers like Kelly Rowland and Fantasia, but it's obvious that their skintones are an issue for a lot of people, including their own.

Again, they don't have to be clones of Beyonce and Rihanna. Where are they though; why aren't they successful like Ariana, Taylor Swift, Demi and Selena?

I agree with the poser that said it's because black and brown people aren't supporting them. Back in the day, you had to purchase a cd and that made it easier for entertainers to blow up. Black people not supporting R&B is partially why it is not selling. White people never cared for R&B Mary J. like that.  We were the ones buying those albums!

Again how can you say "Where are they? Why aren't they successful?" then proceed to answer your own question. They aren't successful because of that very reason, lack of support. Every girl mentioned in this thread may not be successful selling albums and singles but they are all successful. The mere fact that we are even discussing them proves that fact. No one is selling albums these days. I mean you have all these popular rapper songs who have literally no real hits but are slaying the scene.

and another issue is that "think like" mentality. You can't get into someone if everyone else doesn't like them. Already posting critic stats and listening to 30second clips judging an entire body of work rather than going in and listening to the shit, sitting with it for a while and judging for yourself.

The degree of their success is beneath that of their peers and it pales in comparison to the success of the formers. I just want to know why the girls aren't giving a visible slayage is all. Seems odd not to have young female talent gainfully on the rise when the den mother is nearly 40.

What does that have to do with Bey and Rih's success over the last 10 years and the sudden rise of colorism? Was Janet and Whitney relevant 10 years ago? And since when is Janet dark skinned? She's not as light as Bey, but she's a safe tone much like Kerry Washington.

White people are just as openly coloristic as black people are. It was all in Lynch's letter. To the degree it has manifested itself is all white people's fault. Whites are well aware that Beyonce and Rihanna are fair skinned with euro-centric features. I'm around white people all the time and I've seen how they've treated light skin and dark skin people.
