You guys are missing the topic. The OP is referencing people that intentionally add spoonfuls of sugar to their plate of spaghetti as though their using grated parmesan. Then some cooks will make the entire batch that way. It's no longer a savory dish but sweet AF.

I know sauce already has a degree of sugar in it.

I mean, tomatoes are fruits. Naturally they contain a certain amount of sugar, but I ain't eating no sweet ass spaghetti. 

My moms spaghetti has always been bomb and she never adds sugar.
