UGH all 3 classics  :'( :'( :'(

If I HAD to it'd go FM, Aaliyah, ATS. But honestly if it wasn't for Ghan's voice Aaliyah would be in first.

I remember when Li's album came out it was kinda hard for me to get into at first,
but it eventually grew on me as I started getting older. She came the fuck through!

I can only imagine what she would be giving right now.

I really enjoyed the Red album sonically, she kinda delved into a lot of different sounds with it.

But the futuristic-R&B concept and cohesiveness of Full Moon slayed too.

It's hard to choose between them, for me.

ATS is 3rd place tho lolz.

It's the best albums by all three.  I've got to make a mix tape of the best songs from these albums.

Can We, Come a Little Closer, Love Wouldn't Count Me Out, Wow, Die Without You

She sounds great on all of them, that doesn't mean you Keep all of them. Took me a while to realize even though FM is her greatest vocally, it isn't the best overall album

Its my opinion that vonc hasnt come to appreciate the best of brandy yet
He dislikes a large amount of her material
Makes me blink  several times when i think about it
But the over lapping production was a theme on fm

But can we and wau do sound like the same drum kit but reworked

And at the end where they slow down can we it and fade onto wau its similiar

Rodney clealry tried a 2 for 1 with that

But stargate got 9 for 1 with their drum pattern over a cello for a while

Just vocals arent enough to make an album great. the production and Brandy's voice didnt gel well imo. Alot of the songs were overproduced and it just sounds like a whole bunch of noise IMO. Aaliyah's production and her voice were a unit. I felt like I couldnt even hear brandy for production shit in the BG at times. There's a reason Afrodisiac is Brandy's most critically acclaimed album. There's a reason RED was exalted critically. Full Moon didnt get great reviews........and now that I think about it, it being TOO LONG was one of the gripes :dead:
A great album aint about who has the best vocals. There are bitches who cant sing that make amazing albums :dead:

Full Moon DEF has fillers...
1. The Intro
2. Can We
3. Come a Little Bit Closer
4. He Is (Can't believe label chose this as 3rd single)

Could've def been left out...

WOW or Die Without You are good but one would've have to go too

Open should've started the album before Full Moon and I Wanna Fall In Love should've been included on all versions of the album as a closer

Come a little bit closer is everything so is he is

Vocally Full Moon just devours the other two. That is all that matters. Not like Li wrote her mess.

The Red Album is a better album than Full Moon in terms of lyrically and creatively... Tell me what songs on Full Moon are better than We Need A Resolution, More Than a Woman, Rock The Boat and Those Were the Days...

Oh yeah and Afrodisiac>>>>Full Moon, still love Full Moon thou...

Eww
We need a resolution is the only standout and thats just production alone

Vocally and lyrically fm slays it

I agree with VOCALLY that's a obvious and the ballads as well, however I do feel lyrically the Red album talked about more intense topics and the word play was clever, Static SHAT for that album.... I still love Full Moon thou I listen to it often but in terms of overall Aaliyah>>>>

4. He Is (Can't believe label chose this as 3rd single)

WOW or Die Without You are good but one would've have to go too

Open should've started the album before Full Moon and I Wanna Fall In Love should've been included on all versions of the album as a closer
I agree with all this. Wow stays tho, I love that. I LOVE open and I do feel like Open and Full Moon are very similar. Open shits BRICKS on Full Moon wouldve loved for that to take its place

Li's mess is full of filler like all her albums but the singles are nothing short of legendary.

After The Storm is just so cohesive and soulful, it really FLOWS, the esthetics, this epitome of pure contemporary R&B, no gimmicks, no trends, no mess. Clean production, solid lyrics. The album doesn't try hard, it just books silently.

FM had incredible vocal production and arrangement, it's truly alien like. This album can never be recreated. It's not about it being edgy or telling compelling it unique stories, it's just SONICALLY and vocally so impeccable it wins by default.

I mean what of the prodution? Aaliyah's album had better notable production and cohesiveness than FLOPica's :dead:
It wasn't "trendy", there weren't any "gimmicks" and it didn't "try hard" either

Title: Re: Rank these albums, Pt. 2 (Please don't lock)
Post by: SouravMay on August 09, 2016, 01:55:37 PM
I will admit I might be a littl biased because I'm heavy on vocals. Li's album is probably the most "creative" and artsy. The lyrical content is way more compelling. It's a much more daring and innovative project than the others, but in my earplugs it's just less enjoyable. "Yeezus" is a very artistic work but the music is not pleasant. Red is that to a lesser degree.

I really like the horse sounds in "I Refuse" though, and the dramatics. It's the kind of album white hipster people love about R&B.

Monica's mess was simple and real. She sang "That's My Man" and I believed every word. Li's album is slightly contrived. Don't think she was digging and giving any personal rea, rather than hiding behind some edgy producers.

well some of Full Moon is Rodnery trying his best Timbaland but
I MEAN! :kii: :kii: :kii: :kii: :kii: :kii: :kii:
And Full Moon is the reason Brandy is regarded as the vocal bible. I dont think the album is just highly regarded because of its overall awesomeness.

and Im sorry to do this but I saw quite a few reviews giving what this review gave
QuoteFull Moon, her third album, comes the closest to being a full-fledged, well-rounded album, as well as establishing a personality as a singer. That's not to say this album is as fiercely independent or adventurous as Aaliyah's last album,

Don't think Rodney or Bran cited Li as an inspiration for FM lolz

And regardless if the supposed original were better than the copy, how come red does not have a cult following like FM in the industry...

And if anything FM rehashed from MJ's "Invincible" or Ray J's "This Ain't A Game", where she both contributed to.

We know what Rodney was giving in the late 90s. Triangles, keys, stringed choruses, arrangement.... suddenly he's giving syncopated patterns, negative frequencies and sound effects.

The gag is, Rodney came out wit this sound before those 3 timbaland cuts appeared on Red.

This, Invincible and FM share the same sound kit and beat archive.

So maybe Tim took from Dark.

FM did something vocally that No album, including Red, did. Imo it has a following because of what Brandy did. The layers and backgrounds and atmospheres she created, the omission of negative space. The adlibbing, etc. She's the vocal bible not the blueprint for albums. Her/Their vocal production is the reason for that. No argument can be made there. But overall album, of course.

PRECISELY! The vocals are why some people love that, not just because it was an all around great body of work. NSN is a better album than full moon imhfo simply because EVERYTHING worked together and there was a great balance.

Not the actual album though, but her persona. Most people, if at all clutch onto her OIAM album or her early AANBN era. Those are the songs people love to cover. Most literature describes OIAM as Li's essence. That's the symbiosis of Missy/Tim/Li. Nobody talked about Red the album like that.

Maybe it depends on the demographics. But in the R&B works, among her peers, among the singing community, among producers FM has a very very special place that Red does not hold.

Now hipster-ish pseudo-intellectual suburbian tumblr gorls, or editors for these edgy white publications. I could see that.

Not when people in this very thread who listed FM as their first pick stated that it had filler, which means some love FM but not in its "entirety."

And not sure what a swoop has to do with anything when she stopped wearing that for Red, and not when Brandy is known for braids

Can I ask the Li's something? Don't you think out of all the three, Red is the least authentic or the "fakest", for the lack of a better term.

I just don't Aaliyah was very open and personal it was difficult to connect with her on Red.

AANBAN the song is also one of the popular cuts for Li. The line/lyric really embodied her.
It KINDA is because it was even a phrase people used back in the day, like with Brandy's I wanna be down. Its still not as "go to" as her other 2 songs from that era. That era isnt what people go up for in its entirety tho, its kinda  just those 3 songs.

Not a "li" but her last album was the one i felt like was most her. I think the first album was people trying to push an image. The whole R.Kelly connection tied into it too. I dont think that was her at all tbh

The li album was her only adult album, she didn't have a chance to open up fully and express her personal life through her music
Who knows if she ever would of anyway
But it's the def the album I'd as connect with her personality the most
It's effortless, dark, mysterious and laid back...just like she was

Trying to figure out how someone who loves to mention that Li didn't write her albums has any degree of expectation for authenticity from her music. What did you connect with before that you didn't connect with on Red. Couldn't have been the lyrics straight from her heart.

One thing I'll give NSN, is that that's where Bran's artistry and style kicked in. Her debut was good, but very Whitney Jr-ish. She started carving her own lane with NSN.

even tho My' AINT in the mess I can agree. Her debut was great. I would still put Aaliyah's debut over monica because all her singles were nice

Could u imagine if they all booked and collab'd once?

Liy would glide into the first verse and put you in the MEWD
Give Mya the Chorus and she and Liy coo back and forth and Adlib a bit over it

Then Mon ATTACKS the second verse with some SASS ala TBIM
Starts adlibing with Liy and My' making some beautiful harmonies throughout the chorus

Then the Vocal Bible STORMS Through the bridge and takes the song to another dimension with her sick full harmonies and note choices

And then they all coo and run back and forth until the song fades out

:stressed:

I used to severely Stan for Li, I think even before I became the mega Bran Stan, recreating the MTAW sexy towel dance, doing a school presentation on her and all, but once I dug into Bran's albums cuts via Limewire around 2006 before having heard any of Li's albums in full I just couldn't appreciate people with whom I perceived to have lesser vocal... It was sort of a curse. That's why it took me literally forever to listen to Ciara, Janet, J. Lo etc albums. Whom before I barely had an issue with their voice. It's what keeps me from pressing play on any Britney album also. Listening to bran really spoiled me.

But now having spun Red really a lot, it's not the kinda record I randomly play in the bus or on my bike. You kinda need to be in the mood for the mess.

But nnnn this Tango/Salsa mess on "Between The Lines" static n them gave her some innovative mess for sure.

QuoteMonica then took the stage at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium, followed by Brandy, who co-starred with Houston in the 1997 TV movie Cinderella. Brandy performed a melody that featured Houston's hits "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)."
