See, for many years I was under the impression that their divorce going public and their parents putting a stop to it was why things ended between them, but this def lets me know that she hates that man. Now this is a clip they shouldve added on Surviving R Kelly.
It's so clear now that so much more happened :plzstop: and she didn't deny them being married. Said she's not married now.
She didn't deny the marriage.
I love how she answered the question.
R. Kelly needs to be locked the fuck up -- and needs therapy.
For her to overcome this monster...then life be taken away from her so suddenly at the peak of her career breaks my heart :'(
This is the most upfront she's ever been about it
Omg
She didn't use him
All this time I thought she was in love with that man
Yuck I hate him

I didn?t hear the now part, I heard just I?m not married and I feel she answered this question similar to how she always has elusive and vague af :dead:
You can sense the darkness around that time for her
I got my mom with me.. I?ve healed
Very sad .. she?s only like 17 here

Why her family let their 14 year old daughter with that man singing all kind of SEXUAL SONGS?
Because they wanted FAME and MONEY..
So yeah, Aaliyah have a career because OF Him... and they know the price of it now.
Stupidity is real.
No, It's just something that you don't want to SEE.
A lot of those parents are SELLING their children ( if what they are saying about robert is true) and it's CRAZY that you keep supporting that.
By the time of that video, she didn't release her second album...
so yeah, the fans she had where her "fans" because of ROBERT...

This is all speculation, not fact.
Aaliyah wanted to be a star, no different from Brandy.
Besides, there weren?t allegations against him that were known prior to Aaliyah situation. Her uncle was managing R Kelly and in charge of her career. It was a no brainer that he would have her work with a producer he managed.
Her parents seemed like they never wanted the spotlight. Still don?t.
Aaliyah didn?t have a career because of R Kelly. Aaliyah had a career because she connected with part of the public. Same goes for any successful artist. Brandy?s career is not due to Keith Crouch nor Rodney Jerkins. It?s their voices, their touring, their work that gets them to where they are.
Brandy credited Aaliyah?s success with Atlantic wanting to sign her. Should we also say R Kelly is responsible for Brandy?s career?
Aaliyah was able to go on and be successful without R. Kelly and cemented her name in Pop music/culture without that nigga which could not be said for the rest of his victims. Her hard work and skill is why she?s remained.
Right her debut is her least talked about, least noted and least relavent :dead:
It blended in with all the other generic R&B that was out during that time
When people talk about Aaliyah's music they talk about everything FROM 1998 onwards

Let?s not forget that Aaliyah was booed at the Soul Train Awards and received backlash from her core audience after it came out that she married R Kelly. She had to rebuild her career after that.
Which makes that whole ?R Kelly gave her a career? theory even more ridiculous.

There are MANY other young people that went into the entertainment industry without having to go through what Aaliyah did. If Aaliyah had been working with producers that Monica or Brandy was working with, she probably wouldn't have been married at 15 years old. R Kelly is definitely THE problem.
Before the doc his shows were getting cancelled left, right and center due to protests.
Godtify removed him from all their playlists and have not allowed him back on any since.
Bey declined his unofficial and unsolicited if I were a boy remix and send a cease n desist to radio to get it pulled.
Social media also plays a huge part in spreading awareness. Before SM if you missed an interview (especially a radio one) it?s almost like it didn?t happen.
Let?s not give lifetime all the credit.

Idk why it boils me up but I?m on fire and upset
This damn young girl
I?m raging
Blaming her for this shit and Turning her into a villain
Anyone doing that is fuckin dZumb. Like really. When you look at it like that, and realize anyone blaming the victims and not the mildly retarded beady eyed monkey is equally insane, it makes u fume less.
I guess it just makes me go back to my 12,14 year old self
And her not having any power today to speak up
I just..
Whew.
But yeah
Any girl defending this thing or faulting her is def sick
It worked out for the best, musically speaking, because it allowed her to give Tim and Missy a chance. :blessed: Otherwise, she would have had a typical mid-90?s album.

Let?s not forget that Aaliyah was booed at the Soul Train Awards and received backlash from her core audience after it came out that she married R Kelly. She had to rebuild her career after that.
Which makes that whole ?R Kelly gave her a career? theory even more ridiculous.

I can?t think of a single Aaliyah article where is name isn?t brought up. He?s def. credited for her a platform and she even signed her first deal because of him. Whether y?all like it or not.

Yes. And the singles were very successful. Only ?Try Again? outcharted.
And her version of At Your Best is ICONIC
Sampled many times
Don?t sleep on Bert, fags. Just cause it?s cool to not like him now.
People definitely dont associate Aaliyah and R.Kelly.... maybe if you were an adult from that period but definitely not. Aaliyah's most iconic music is from her middle 2 albums. The one song i will say people really remember from the debut is At Your best
Just FYI, she wasn?t signed due to Rapist. And the only reason he did the whole album is because Barry was once again being cheap.
He did her first album, universally considered her worst, and then brought her to the brink of failure during that project. She had to start over on OIAM, and she flourished without him.
Like her dad said, she was destined for greatness long before she met him.
QuoteAnd Aaliyah eventually became a part of that roster. On a podcast with Billboard, you said that her uncle Barry Hankerson, who was managing R. Kelly, brought her to Jive?
He had brought Aaliyah to Jive and I think he started bring her to Jive when she was probably around 11 or 12? She was young when she put out the first album, but she was like 11 or 12 when he first started shopping her to Jive. The guy who owned Jive at the time, Clive Calder, he?s also an A&R person by trade. He was basically head of the A&R department. Barry kept shopping her to him and he saw something, but he said, ?She?s not ready, she?s still young, she needs to be developed more.? Barry would go back and develop her more. Aaliyah was in a performing arts high school in Detroit, like the Fame kind of school, but for Detroit. She was always a creative girl, that was her path, singing and dancing. Barry kept bringing her back. I think when she was 14 was when Clive said, ?Okay, we?re ready to take a shot at her.? And they signed her and started to put together her work on that first album...
I?m assuming it was always the plan to have R. Kelly do the producing and songwriting or were there any discussions to bring in other producers or songwriters along the way?
Not that I remember, Robert was going to do the whole record. Clive was a publishing guru, so he and Barry weren?t trying to cut a lot of people in on the album to share the publishing. They said we?re going to do this with one guy and the publishing will be easy to deal with because it?s one person.

This girl was destined to be a star without that ape ass pedo fag
Yea her cousin Jomo
QuoteWhat was surprising to me was that after it all, Aaliyah got villainized. That?s the part that I never understood. That?s what made the transition to the second album difficult. It was hard for us to get producers. We were coming off of a multi-platinum debut album and except for a couple of relationships with Jermaine Dupri and Puffy, it was hard for us to get producers on the album. She was 16, 17 at the time of the second album. I just didn?t understand why they were upset with baby girl.?
that makes me sad to read. i cant imagine how she felt as a damn CHILD that ppl were upset with her ugh
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DneZVzvWwAA4UkY.jpg)
I dunno. If someone was to do an Aaliyah tribute and perform a medley of say 5 of her songs, theyd prob do One In A Million, Try Again, Are U That Somebody, More Than A Woman and If Ur Girl Only Knew. I dont see any songs from her debut in the mix.
As a matter of fact, maybe if Aaliyah never worked with R Kelly but with someone else, she wouldve been able to have the success Monica and Brandy had with their solo albums. Tim and Missy's influence on Aaliyah was more impactful but Kelz introduced her to the public. I actually kind of feel like she was quite pretentious during her debut era.

How do we know Aaliyah?
BECAUSE HE PRODUCED HER FIRST ALBUM AND MADE HER FAMOUS..
Why her family let their 14 year old daughter with that man singing all kind of SEXUAL SONGS?
Because they wanted FAME and MONEY..
So yeah, Aaliyah have a career because OF Him... and they know the price of it now.
how does that make it ok? Are u alright?
it happens alot
and everyone has to be resposible for the part they play
the parents are the frontline protectors of their children
jojos mom anxious to get her daughter famous alllowed her to get in bed (metaphor) with ppul that would ruin her chances and career eventually
celine dions parents knew something was wrong about rene and celines relationship but things were looking so good they let it happen
Aaliyahs parents didnt pull rank and halt the process of whatever was going on because the fruits of whatever was going on were playing out
so
wrong will always be wrong
but there are more responsible parties as well to me its no different than conspiracy to commit

I agree with Lew RMD was executive produced by Li and she had 4 songs on it.
Off the top of your head I bet no one can really name another song on it by anyone else outside of Perfect Man. Try Again moved that soundtrack to platinum.
I can name other songs because i have the sdtrk, but that's irrelevant because she doesnt have atleast 50% of the material on the album. Name one other song from the titanic sdtrk besides my heart will go on. That sdtrk sold over 30 million copies off of one song and one song ALONE :dead:
That doesnt make it Celine's album.
Romeo must die is certainly not Aaliyah's album tho she had the most noteworthy song on it, sorry
firstly you cant name shit :kii:
the song was recorded and released on her album lets talk about love
before it was released on the the titanic soundtrack
and was only part of a multi single rollout schedule from the lets talk about love album
and the theme song was not to coincide with celine acting appearance in the movie
so no it was not her album she only had one song and she had an album that predated it with its own set of singles including that one
anything else beloved?

its not fair because there was a brief spike in sales after she died
Well. Maybe someone needs to up the ante.
Level the playing field kinda mess. Secure spot #2.
:enchantress:
Btw, if you add in Li's BMG Club sales from OIAM and Aaliyah both are over 3 million each.
AALIYAH - ONE IN A MILLION (ATLANTIC) (756,000 units)
AALIYAH - AALIYAH (VIRGIN) (350,000 units)

You're stupid as is every irrelevant thing u said here. Literally none of this shit matters, dummy. It doesnt matter that she had the most notable song from the album. Other sdtrks can say the same and sold more. It doesnt matter that she had 4 songs. She didn't have 50% of the albums content. Ur saying a bunch of dumb shit based on your autistic ass opinion. Aaliyah has always been 2nd imo. And few albums? She has 4 albums and brandy has 6 and been alive damn near a whole 2 decades more. CH!

That is not a fair comparison. We know Brandy takes huge ass Breaks between albums. Liyah did those THREE albums in her lifetime, and they debuted around the same time. Brandy was still on her 2nd, moving into her 3rd by that time.

I'd compare Aaliyah/Robert to Toni/Agedface type of thing. Kinda sorta.
Yeah she started with Agedface - they were inseparable, doing videos together like GODliyah and Bert.
But she eventually branched off into her own tea. Biggest hit came from her boring ass work with Diane Warren, etc.
No one would really say Agedface "made" Toni. Toni is fucking Toni. But to say he didn't play a major role would be a bit unfair to him.
He definitely helped to develop her as an artist. And that is fucking important.

She died only a few weeks after Aaliyah came out. We?d only seen one video and single. A lot of those sales can be attributed to how well the subsequent singles performed. Rock the Boat, MTAW, and I Care 4 U would have been hits regardless.
Plus, her stuff has largely been out of print and not available for years. Many people who could have purchased or streamed her music have not been able to do so for a long time.

Li?s mess sold more after she died btw
Faggot shut up no it didnt. There was a spike shortly afterwards and thats it. Just like anyone who dies.
Yea she didn't sell MILLIONS more after she died. She's the 2nd best girl in the trinity
Where did I say she sold millions lol. I said she sold more when she died and everyone had agreed on that.
but AANBAN and Aaliyah both went from Gold cert to double platinum in 2001 and 2002 so yea it was millions more
Plus, her stuff has largely been out of print and not available for years. Many people who could have purchased or streamed her music have not been able to do so for a long time.
nnn imagine that

Aaliyah was literally her current album that was out and 2 more singles were released after her death. How can u say Aaliyah sold because she died? She was one single in. AND AANBAN was already platinum before she died and it definitely didn't sell a million more copies. So yea, I said wtf i said
We Need A Resolution was not selling though. For example Moodring was released in July 2003 and certified Gold in August. Also 1 month in off 1 single which actually was a top 15 hit, and it stayed just Gold. I mean who knows what would have happened but it definitely skyrocketed from Gold to Platinum then Double Platinum afterwards, and the debut went from Platinum to Double Platinum

Romeo must die is certainly not Aaliyah's album tho she had the most noteworthy song on it, sorry
the song was recorded and released on her album lets talk about love
before it was released on the the titanic soundtrack
and was only part of a multi single rollout schedule from the lets talk about love album
and the theme song was not to coincide with celine acting appearance in the movie
so no it was not her album she only had one song and she had an album that predated it with its own set of singles including that one
anything else beloved?
You're stupid as is every irrelevant thing u said here. Literally none of this shit matters, dummy. It doesnt matter that she had the most notable song from the album. Other sdtrks can say the same and sold more. It doesnt matter that she had 4 songs. She didn't have 50% of the albums content. Ur saying a bunch of dumb shit based on your autistic ass opinion. Im stating facts, idiot :dead:
fact one
Lets talk about love ALBUM was released before the titanic soundtrack
Fact two
my heart will go on was selected as the theme song
Fact three
while promoting lets talk about love..... titanic soundtrack was released and capitalized off of the theme song
already selected and
already being promoted at the time
;-) there was no need to stake claim to the soundtrack when your album is already out with it
fact four
the songs buzz helped to sell both albums
fact five
The Titanic soundtrack was benefiting from celines album and single release of the song. Outside of the song she had no other ties to the project or score of the movie and she had her own album and singles running on top of that the rest of the scoring was music only not singing and lyrics

Yea she didn't sell MILLIONS more after she died. She's the 2nd best girl in the trinity
Where did I say she sold millions lol. I said she sold more when she died and everyone had agreed on that.
but AANBAN and Aaliyah both went from Gold cert to double platinum in 2001 and 2002 so yea it was millions more
Rock the Boat, MTAW, and I Care 4 U would have been hits regardless.

RTB was already getting spins at radio, which is why they rushed it out as a second single. WNAR underperformed, but the other singles sounded more mainstream.
U think he'd know this since daja vu and ring the alarm both underperformed and beyonce didn't really have a hit until irreplaceable came along, but whatever. Hey baph lolz

Romeo must die is certainly not Aaliyah's album tho she had the most noteworthy song on it, sorry
the song was recorded and released on her album lets talk about love
before it was released on the the titanic soundtrack
and was only part of a multi single rollout schedule from the lets talk about love album
and the theme song was not to coincide with celine acting appearance in the movie
so no it was not her album she only had one song and she had an album that predated it with its own set of singles including that one
anything else beloved?
You're stupid as is every irrelevant thing u said here. Literally none of this shit matters, dummy. It doesnt matter that she had the most notable song from the album. Other sdtrks can say the same and sold more. It doesnt matter that she had 4 songs. She didn't have 50% of the albums content. Ur saying a bunch of dumb shit based on your autistic ass opinion. Im stating facts, idiot :dead:
fact one
Lets talk about love ALBUM was released before the titanic soundtrack
Fact two
my heart will go on was selected as the theme song
Fact three
while promoting lets talk about love..... titanic soundtrack was released and capitalized off of the theme song already selected and already being promoted at the time
;-) there was no need to stake claim to the soundtrack when your album is already out with it
fact four
the songs buzz helped to sell both albums
fact five
The Titanic soundtrack was benefiting from celines album and single release of the song. Outside of the song she had no other ties to the project or score of the movie and she had her own album and singles running on top of that the rest of the scoring was music only not singing and lyrics
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The situations are not the same you are trying to fit it in to your autistic (bullet dodging hood logic) interpretation
and support this reciept-less 50% rule
No sweetie Majority rules
if you want to talk percenteges
Celine had one song out of 14
1/14=.07%
aaliyah had 4 songs out of 18
4/18=.22%
Based on the figures and events
Based on contribution aaliyah wins and celine doesnt
why did you post this
Whats wrong
I can?t believe all this happened

Aaliyah was literally her current album that was out and 2 more singles were released after her death. How can u say Aaliyah sold because she died? She was one single in. AND AANBAN was already platinum before she died and it definitely didn't sell a million more copies. So yea, I said wtf i said
I mean who knows what would have happened
Exactly. Especially considering the fact that only one single was released :dead:
ok so all we can definitely say is her sales went up rapidly right after she died and not 1 minute before
and that 1 single was not a hit
Yea which is really all irrelevant because it's not uncommon for albums to go unnoticed until a hit comes along to help it gain momentum. Jewel's pieces of u didn't chart at all for 2 yrs and went on to be a damn diamond album. The fact is first singles flop all the damn time. She released 3 more and had 2 other videos so uhhhhhhh yea :dead:
and there?s no guarantee that any of those singles would have been hits or moved the album
And there's no guarantee that they wouldn't have either so your comments are really moot. You came in here trying to prove a point and only got proved wrong. As i said, she didn't sell millions after her death and nothing u said in here negated that :dead:

Increased airplay generally led to increased sales back then, no? RTB was already gaining on airplay and made them reshuffle their whole single strategy.
If nothing is definitive, you can?t definitively state she wouldn?t have had success had she not died.
MTAW would have definitely been a single because they?d already filmed the video.

no. YOUR point is moot the Aaliyah album was certified Platinum 5 days after her death then double platinum that February 2002
so based just off the strength of that you?re wrong it is Millions more
ALSO since there?s no guarantee on what would have happened if she were alive but there was a drastic change right when she died the LOGICAL response is not to ASSUME the era would go the same way and give the same credit

Faggot shut up no it didnt. There was a spike shortly afterwards and thats it. Just like anyone who dies.
Yea she didn't sell MILLIONS more after she died. She's the 2nd best girl in the trinity
Where did I say she sold millions lol. I said she sold more when she died and everyone had agreed on that.
but AANBAN and Aaliyah both went from Gold cert to double platinum in 2001 and 2002 so yea it was millions more
Rock the Boat, MTAW, and I Care 4 U would have been hits regardless.
says who? Resolution wasn?t a hit so there?s really no telling what would have caught on
RTB was already getting spins at radio, which is why they rushed it out as a second single. WNAR underperformed, but the other singles sounded more mainstream.
U think he'd know this since daja vu and ring the alarm both underperformed and beyonce didn't really have a hit until irreplaceable came along, but whatever. Hey baph lolz
Deja Vu was top 5 and Ring The Alarm was#11
to compare them to Resolution which was not even top 40 is not a great example :dead: they were still HITS and moved units for the album

BDay was certified Platinum on October 6th 2006
Irreplaceable was released October 23rd 2006 but yeah
Also Bday sold 500k first week and Dangerously in Love sold 300k first week
But sure she was underperforming
Bday was beys fastest selling album prior to self titled. Some of y?all will say anything.
True tea is the red album was underperforming and WNAR was not doing what it was supposed to do. Who knows what would?ve happened if she had the chance to release more singles without the tragedy.
I def believe rock the boat was going to be a smash regardless.

Oh yeah I agree she is 2nd after further analysis. The reason why I thought she was, when she died (or maybe some years after) was because of just the three albums AND also Mo was marketed and promoted as Brandy rival when i was younger and not into stan stuff. I knew Brand yg was that girl, so naturally someone being marketed as her rival in my mind made her an equal. While liyah was left out, 3rd wheel kinda mess if that makes sense.
I wouldn't say Aaliyah was left out tho. She just wasn't pitted against them......as much. That happened a time or two too. She was definitely was competition and amongst them, hence the whole trinity thing. She was the best artist imo. Brandy was the best singer. Monica was the relatable girl. They all had a place........but brandy and Aaliyah were the best LOLZ
I most definitely agree with that. I didn't mean left out. As you said not pitted against each other as much.

The album went platinum in less than a month. Isn?t the point of singles to move album units?
Underperforming is what WNAR and the red album were doing. Underperforming is rated R taking a year and a day to go platinum. All beys albums are platinum +. No streaming manipulation on her end.
this all day and all night lashing that's happening....

How did it underperform when Deja vu hit the top5 and ring the alarm was her highest debut prior to Formation?
Beyonce was at her very peak and came off of an album with 2 #1 singles and a top 5 3rd single. Her first single was doing what her 3rd single did from the debut and u throwing out formation stats meanwhile ring the alarm (HER 2ND SINGLE) didn't even hit the top 10 :dead:
Stop being dense. If that's the case then she still sales ok now but none of her songs ever really do much on the hot 100. Are her songs still not underperforming because the album sold well enough? The songs DEFINITELY underperformed. This is why i can't take beyonce fans. Never wanna admit that bitch doesnt excel at everything smh
Fergie came off back to back hits with BEP and huge singles and her album still struggled to move units until big girls don?t cry came out. That?s an underperforming start.

It's time to reevaluate this 3rd position of the trinity.
Always thought Liyah was 3rd due to few albums.
I think she's still third tbh
Monica has more hits and Ranks higher than Both Brandy and Aaliyah on the billboard biggest females mess...
Brandy and Aaliyah are actually important tho so
Depends on what u prioritize tbh

Bday was beys fastest selling album prior to self titled. Some of y?all will say anything.
What does that have to do with those songs underperforming, which they definitely did. :dead:
Did u even read What my point was?
Quote
And Aaliyah was already gold even with a flop first single and nothing else released. So like i was saying, even with underperforming 1st (and in Beyonce's case 2nd) singles girls can still move units and their eras aren't over because of them. Thanks
My whole entire point was that her album was doing ok in spite of having underperforming singles. So u saying it was her fastest seller doesn't at all negate what i was saying but cosign it :dead:
And secondly, Aaliyah was still doing okay because her album was gold despite having a poorly performing 1st single, so what he said was dumb. Trying to chalk all her sales up to death and the bitch had ATLEAST 3 more singles to release

How can you even defend her family?
They couldn't have been that clueless?
Even the interview people picked up on it.
Why are they even wearing matching clothes :uhh:
You seem to be putting the onus on her parents when it should be on the near thirty year old man who was probably grooming her from the moment they met

Is it her parent's fault that r kelly is a sick bastard? No.
Is it her parents fault that r kelly took it as far as he did?
Absolutely.
Did they even retaliate after the fact? I dont think they ever pressed charges and they obviously didnt hurt him physically either.

While I agree with you, pedophiles are out there. There's nothing we can do to stop it. Just like the sun, you step outside, ur gonna get sun burnt. It's the parents job to make sure u put some sunscreen lotion on to avoid that from happening. As much as R Kelly is to be blamed, under no circumstance should the parents be okay with Aaliyah singing 'Age ain't nothing but a number, let me take you to ecstasy, dont be afraid, tonight we're gonna go all the way". As a man or woman knowing another grown man wrote these songs, you felt it was okay? And then after hearing she got married, you were easily swayed to accept some form of payout perhaps to not speak about it? The kind of RAGE R Kelly had when Gayle asked him 'How would u feel if ur daughters were taken advantage of?' and he said he'd be arrested if that happened, why didn't Aaliyah's parents not have the same level of anger? Instead they kept their mouth shut. A damn shame. To a certain degree, they allowed this man to CONTINUE to take advantage of possibly hundreds of other young girls.

The fact that Nickelodeon had to ask Aaliyah to change up her lyrics for her live performance of Age Ain't Nothin is absolutely disgusting. That song alone is really despicable.
