I mean, people should always question and research things on their own and find out what they truly connect to, but once they do, let them believe what they'd like.
The how and why is important, but I just don't like when people try and tell people what's real and what isn't. Let them decide :dead: I've seen what that faith has done for my family and for me, so I'd never down it
Same for my Muslim side of the family. Their faith is beautiful

i always question this
They instilled in us Christianity and the belief in God to make us think that church and prayer would place us in heaven where would essentially be free.. And also to keep us collectively obedient .. A "turn the other cheek" mess..
It's scary
I have such a relationship with God but I battle with this so much because it was taught to me by the white man!
They taught me this to control our minds and behavior
This higher being was pressured to give us something to look forward to.. After life.. A "better life".. All along knowing that what they were doing was wrong

And on top of all that, I just started thinking about WHY I'm a Christian. It was never a conscious choice. I was pretty much just born into it. If I was born into a different family, I might have been something totally different. I just don't know man. I still have my beliefs, but I've been exploring others as well to see what I connect to at heart.

Yeah that's the thing. When this is something you've believed and practiced all your life, it feels very weird, and almost wrong, to question it. But I don't wanna blindly follow anything anymore. I'll always believe in God, but I don't know if I'll subscribe to any religion.

She's right! I was actually thinking about this today with my family on my mother's side. They're so religious and will never question their "god". Like, it's always been that way. :letsmessfag:

I think alot of black people have been seeing this question alot lately due to the rise in hoteps/woke blacks/militant blacks.
From what I seen many of them go crazy over the thought of it being questioned completely. There are some who have knowledge and can bring up a debate about Africans starting Christianity but the majority of the time I see a bunch of black christians just losing their mind because I don't think they're used to people questioning Christianity as much as people are doing now.

My main problem with organized western religion is that it encourages conformity and singular thought. Which is a VERY dangerous thing. It allows a few people to control the minds of masses, and it forces anyone who is "different" into the dark. It glorifies certain ideas while condemning others.
And that's just not practical for the world we live in. We are all different for a reason. We all have our own path in life. There is no reason why we can't set off on it individually and respect each other's journey.
I mean I've been saying and telling my fam / friends this
We believed in the universal God once.
Because that's what we came from. We were in touch with the universal truth about the world around us and ourselves.
We were stripped of that. Given a tool for the field in one hand and a Bible in the other.
That's not to say that their aren't truths in the Bible because the overall message is the same; but don't just stop there; Get to KNOW God because he's deeper than those humanized parables .
Once you really understand it all you realize who's playground we're in and who we are on this playing field.
Speak that shit Az' !

Have you guys been to a catholic mass?
If you stand back and look at it all
The monotonous praying in Union, the tuneless singing
It seems very cultish to me
When I was in undergrad, I visited all types of services and observed different religions. It was incredibly enlightening, but it turned me off to organized religion in general. There is a lot of good in many religions, but the negative outweighed the positives for me.

Around my area Christianity has been the dominant religion and nobody questioned it, but recently more people have becoming Hotep like blacks(Which is honestly just as bad) I remember one of them started asking the people in my area questions about Christianity and people just started losing it instead of answering him it was
"The devil is busy!" "why are you like this! remember what your grandma taught you!" "The world is coming to an end! we're in last days!"
I was honestly cracking up because I was the same way at one point. I thought everyone believed in the Christian God and when I found out they didn't I was shocked and appalled. :plzstop:

Like hardcore Catholics :dead:
Everything about their daily lives revolved around the scriptures

Not saying all Catholics are like this, but the ones I have been around are
And coming from an West African background where the majority of west Africa practises either Christianity or Islam it's crazy
They literally threw away hundreds of thousands of head worth of tradition and spiritually for a 'how to guide' and a white saviour born in the middle of the desert in a barn to a virgin woman
It's comical but look at the control its had

Have ya'll ever wondered how we came to be?
I believe we, and every animal, evolved from microorganisms. Adam and Eve were single celled organisms.
Now how the microorganisms came about is beyond my imagination, but I definitely dont think someone was saying "Let there be this, let there be that" flicking his hands like Akasha and plopping stuff into space.

gtt Ray its kinda of a well known fact that religion, specifically Christianity was used to make slaves more compliant
why do you think they never wanted them to learn how to read and write?
An educated slave is a dangerous slave
The Arabs did it to Africans during the Arab slave trade with Islam, and the Europeans to Africans during the European Slave trade.
Most slaves began to educate themselves through the bible, they learnt how to write and speak by studying it.
Not saying that every single slave was forced into Christianity, but most of them were, generations after that were BORN into Christianity and never rebelled against it or questioned it because it's the only thing they knew. Some slaves willingly accepted it but also aligned it against their own traditional values, because some of the traditions in African Vodun, spirituality is quite similar to Christianity.
QuoteHistorical records show that Islam and Christianity played an important role in enslavement in Africa. The Arab-controlled Trans-Saharan slave trade helped to institutionalise slave trading on the continent. And during the 'age of expedition', European Christians witnessed caravans loaded with Africans en-route to the Middle East. Others arriving much later in West Africa observed slavery in African societies, leading them to assume that African enslavement was intrinsic to the continent.
For many of these early European explorers, the Bible was not only regarded as infallible, it was also their primary reference tool and those looking for answers to explain differences in ethnicity, culture, and slavery, found them in Genesis 9: 24-27, which appeared to suggest that it was all a result of 'sin'.
In the Genesis passage, Africans were said to be the descendants of Ham, the son of Noah, who was cursed by his father after looking at his naked form. Moreover, in Genesis 10, the 'Table of Nations' describes the origins of the different 'races' and reveals that one of the descendants of Ham is 'Cush' - Cush and the 'Cushites' were people associated with the Nile region of North Africa.
In time, the connection Europeans made between sin, slavery, skin colour and beliefs would condemn Africans. In the Bible, physical or spiritual slavery is often a consequence of sinful actions, while darkness is associated with evil. Moreover, the Africans were subsequently considered 'heathens' bereft of Christianity, although scholars now suggest that Christianity reached Africa as early as the early 2nd century AD and that the Christian communities in North Africa were among the first in the world. However, Europeans doubtlessly refused to acknowledge the relevance of African Christianity as it appeared irreconcilable with the continent's cultural surroundings.
QuoteReligion was also a driving force during slavery in the Americas. Once they arrived at their new locales the enslaved Africans were subjected to various processes to make them more compliant, and Christianity formed part of this. Ironically, although the assertion of evangelisation was one of the justifications for enslaving Africans, very little missionary work actually took place during the early years. In short, religion got in the way of a moneymaking venture by taking Africans away from their work. It also taught them potentially subversive ideas and made it hard to justify the cruel mistreatment of fellow Christians.
However, some clergy tried to push the idea that it was possible to be a 'good slave and Christian' and pointed to St Paul's epistles, which called for slaves to 'obey their masters', and St Peter's letters (1 Peter 2: 18-25), which appeared to suggest that it was wholly commendable for Christian slaves to suffer at the hands of cruel masters.

There are actually some parts of the bible that are very similar to prior religions, even Jesus, so I think we give them too much credit by thinking they created anything "hey, let's make the diety born in Africa." They were just "copy and pasting" stories together to make something stick in that council so they could get to crusading tbh :dead:
Which would explain the total ignorance on his appearance over the centuries. If they KNOW his location of birth, they would logically KNOW what ppl he came from ....

I would say the few slaves that became Christian during those times did so because they secretly learned how to read and understand it
then passed what knowledge they gained to the others
the rest of Black Americans who are Christian probably started after slavery was abolished and the white ppl were forced by the gov't
to let us start our own churches
Sddddddddddddddddd
In the beginning stages of slavery, it was actually the Spaniards that taught us Christianity. They offered the slaves freedom and protection, but they had to covert to Christianity. Florida, along with Cuba of course, were initially Spanish territory and therefore "safe zones" for escaped slaves. When the white man found out, they kinda said "no DEAL" and cleaned house a bit. I'm sure when the slaves were SHIPPED back to the plantations, they spread the gospel too. I also feel like blacks for the most part kinda improvised and made Christianity into what they wanted it to be, as we can clearly see from today. It makes sense though, if they couldn't read..

its kind of a mix for me
my immediate family has always been kinda lazy Christians
we went to church and read the bible once in a while
There were periods when we went to church a lot and then periods we never went
However we always kept the faith and considered ourselves Christian
However I went to a Jesuit College
took religion courses in more than just Christianity
and as an adult I really have decided that Christianity resonates with me
I got baptized this January

gtt Ray its kinda of a well known fact that religion, specifically Christianity was used to make slaves more compliant
why do you think they never wanted them to learn how to read and write?
An educated slave is a dangerous slave
that is different though
them just telling us to recite prayers and scripture to calm down
who said they were just made to "recite prayers and scriptures"?
It's more than just relaying a few words back and forth
It's about WHATS in those specif prayers and scriptures, the intent behind it and what actions come from it.
Words are a powerful tool, it can be used to enlighten the mind, or to dumb it down, in this case it was used as the latter
ok but that's not my argument and that's why you edited
they wanted to dumb us down
but they didn't want us to be "Christian" that's my point
that goes against what Azealia is saying
Black ppl being Christian today is from education and experience
we're not just mindless sheep anymore and still the Black church is stable
ggg. Absolutely not.
ffffff
especially that last part
We're still enslaved to it
Look at the state of mental health in black people around the world
we'd rather see a pastor then go to a doctor and seek medical help
we'd rather pray away the cancer than to seek medical professional help
mental disease is seen as a weakness and as "evil" in some cases
Like I said Religion can be used to further the mind, but too often it's used to dull it
This is why I don't discuss religion too much
Using religion to control is not the same as conversion into said religion
yes they wiped the slaves clean of everything
and clearly they wanted them/us to stay clean
not learn the same language, religion etc as them

White ppl always wanted us to be devout Christians
even though they thought of us as sub-human
you're saying this as if being a Christian was some luxury fff. when the backbone of christian faith was that the white man was supreme and everyone else was to obey him, it shouldn't be that difficult to see why they wanted their slaves to be devout Christians. They also raped and procreated with slaves, but I guess there's no way that could've happened because why would massa find one of his slaves attractive?
Like what do you think of your ancestors have been getting on fine for hundreds of thousands of years, worshiping their own gods, with their own traditions, before "white jesus" came into play?
If Christianity is such a tolerant and free religion, why did deem everything in Africa that didn't follow their bible as evil.
They destroyed all their temples, holy places of worships, their notions, beliefs, spirituality and thrusted the bible into their hand

No because;
1; White people have always been above us in term social economic status and education status, an educated mind, they are more likely to be able to afford medical attention
2: Black people for the most part who are working class, use Christianity or religion as a coping
mechanism, a "give it up to god" approach if you will, which isn't a bad thing, but it LIMITS your mind

We're not talking about 2016 and only 2016
we're talking HISTORICALLY that was done to Black African slaves in America and around the world
and in the same holy book, senior members of churches USED the bible to justify slavery :dead:
I like to believe in 2016, Christians are more open minded, some of them are, some of them are not.
and I'm still not getting the "why would massa want us to be Christians if they hated us"
by that logic, massa would have never raped and impregnated female slaves because they saw them as less than human, but alas...

I gave you two reasons, we're talking about a complex issue here, there isn't going to be ONE simple answer :uhh:
It all relates to one another.
The common theme here is power.
Who had it? the white
Who didn't have it? blacks
Who's culture and way of live was destroyed in favor for the other? the blacks

that's more like the basis of European culture and thinking
In the Holy Book of Christianity a Black man is the one who is son of God
and is able to perform miracles and rise from the dead
IDK what Christianity you are referring too
or what Black church in 2016 you know of that obeys white men
I was under the impression that the post I quoted was in reference to slaves...?
the post and the topic at hand is saying that Black ppl are Christian NOW http://because the slaves were forced into it
and it was passed down through tradition...
and we were discussing the history behind that, no? what most black christians believe doesn't change what took place centuries ago.

gtt Ray its kinda of a well known fact that religion, specifically Christianity was used to make slaves more compliant
why do you think they never wanted them to learn how to read and write?
Black ppl being Christian today is from education and experience
we're not just mindless sheep anymore and still the Black church is stable
ggg. Absolutely not.
sure genius
White ppl always wanted us to be devout Christians
even though they thought of us as sub-human
you're saying this as if being a Christian was some luxury fff. when the backbone of christian faith was that the white man was supreme and everyone else was to obey him, it shouldn't be that difficult to see why they wanted their slaves to be devout Christians. They also raped and procreated with slaves, but I guess there's no way that could've happened because why would massa find one of his slaves attractive?

We're not talking about 2016 and only 2016
we're talking HISTORICALLY that was done to Black African slaves in America and around the world
and in the same holy book, senior members of churches USED the bible to justify slavery :dead:
I like to believe in 2016, Christians are more open minded, some of them are, some of them are not.
thats not what Azealia said though
so do you agree or not? There's a lot of things ppl do and have done USING the Bible or whatever they wanted to get over on others
ppl can twist words and omit others all day
but the fault is in the ppl not the religion itself
My stance is the Azealia is wrong
I am not Christian because of whitey
If slavery never happened, you wouldn't be a christian.

ffffff
especially that last part
We're still enslaved to it
Look at the state of mental health in black people around the world
we'd rather see a pastor then go to a doctor and seek medical help
we'd rather pray away the cancer than to seek medical professional help
mental disease is seen as a weakness and as "evil" in some cases
Like I said Religion can be used to further the mind, but too often it's used to dull it
but by that logic
that would mean White are enslaved to it too no?
Did they not force "their" religion on us? If so
why aren't they praying cancer away too? Why are they easy to go get mental help?
No because;
1; White people have always been above us in term social economic status and education status, an educated mind, they are more likely to be able to afford medical attention
2: Black people for the most part who are working class, use Christianity or religion as a coping
mechanism, a "give it up to god" approach if you will, which isn't a bad thing, but it LIMITS your mind
and who said white people don't neglect medical help in favour for the church?
it DOES happen, but more with blacks than whites, and we often see that in working class or poor communities
that is changing the topic from religion though
first you say Blacks are declining medical help because religion says its a sin, now you're saying it's because we can't afford it, which is 2 different things
No its not.
It's not changing the topic, can't you add other things which relate to the topic to expand the discussion?
I gave you two reasons, we're talking about a complex issue here, there isn't going to be ONE simple answer :uhh:
It all relates to one another.
The common theme here is power.
Who had it? the white
Who didn't have it? blacks
Who's culture and way of live was destroyed in favor for the other? the blacks
Azealia gave 1 simple answer though so you are changing the topic but ok

you said rape, I said sex, they are similar but not one in the same
his point was that the white owners had to be attracted to the slaves to have sex
when casual sex, and attraction happens for thousands of different reasons.

we can't do that because the actual SCRIPTURE says that he is NOT white I don't know any white men with wooly hair
and olive colored skin
so as I said they didn't want us to actually be CHRISTIAN as in reading the scriptures, starting our own churches etc

This is nothing new. However Christianity has a long standing non-white history in Ethiopia, so it's not a "white religion". The Protestant Faith which African Americans adapted very much is.
